CAMPSITE and GÎTES
For a quiet, calm, peaceful
location, a warm reception, native English and French spoken, and well situated
for a host of activities. There are châteaux, dating from the “Hundred Years
War”, there are prehistoric caves, with impressive stalagmites and stalactites
and cave-man drawings, there are lovely regular markets – the one at Villeréal,
only 5 kilometres away was started by order of Edward 1 and has taken place,
rain or shine, every Saturday morning since. There are other more sporting
activities, of course, swimming, tennis, canoeing, horse riding, etc., and,
particularly in the summer months, music festivals – both classical and popular
- , dances, various occasions to justify merely sitting outside a café,
drinking or eating , and watching the world enjoy itself. Most notable of these
is the “Quatorze Juillet”.(Bastille Day).
It’s a nice place to be!!
From this point in I will try to describe Bourgade itself starting, with the aerial view on the previous page with a picture of the house, barn, our little lake, which is full of fish. The “Ferme de Bourgade” used to consist of many hectares but is now only just over 10 hectares in area ( about 25 acres) in which there are about 1.5 hectares of woodland, a hectare of plum trees, a newly planted hectare or so of poplars, approximately 2 hectares for the campsite, and the rest, apart from the garden and forecourt area near the house, used as grassland which is harvested twice a year for winter feed. There are plenty of trees, blackberries, etc. in season, and, of course, except after a very long dry spell, which can happen quite frequently, the predominant colour is green. Our aim is to be peaceful. We do have an area which is suitable for playing at boules, but apart from that there are no games facilities, swings, etc., nor is there a camping shop. There are all necessary and desirable facilities in Villeréal, our nearest small “Bastide” town where there are two banks, several doctors, two dentists, two chemists, an extremely large supermarket, etc. and only 5kms. away.
A little further away -
approximately 30 kilometers – are both Bergerac and Villeneuve sur Lot
which are quite sizeable and well worth spending a day there. Even more
dramatic are places like Rocamadour, Sarlat, Monpazier – the number is
virtually endless, the doorway to discovery is wide open!
It is our intention to try to add matters of interest to our
site.
For
instance, if you are interested in nature, a Dutchman, who camped on our
campsite for only two days, saw the following
Birds
Do you like
fishing? If so there are numerous lakes
within a few kilometres, and of course, our own little lake, whilst small, is
teeming with fish, the ancestors of which were caught by Philippe a few years
ago, and which have bred like wild-fire. It must be the healthy air!! Perhaps a
couple of pictures wouldn’t go amiss!

Oh! And one more thing. We think it’s wonderful around here,
but there are some fabulous places in the U.K.too. Friends of ours, Jean and
Biff, would, I’m sure , welcome you to visit their
website. You”ll not be sorry!
